Van Gogh's Cafe
i.m. Tiernan

How dimly must a faint light
flicker
on a night with five years
behind it
for one old friend not to greet the other?

Was headed your way
but just not then
and got there recently
years too late.

Eternal light
a daily slight
on that last, lost chance
I snuffed.

Business Case

Before the overdue annunciation,
Before the black and white of final speech,
A struggle with the spreading grey to reach
The bread and butter of your visitation.
There has to be a twisting of the truth,
The pull of money quenches hesitation
And principles of former elevation,
Turn to seed and wither to the root.

The quality of effort's not at fault.
Within the halls of greed you pass inspection,
But duty pulls you in the wrong direction,
Shifting from a sea of inner salt.
As documents will bye and bye reveal,
A man who's not a man without a seal.
